Dr Janette James joined La Lucia Vet full-time in 2024. She always wanted to work with animals and has a BSc Agric in Animal Nutrition alongside her Veterinary Science degree. Dr Janette is a lifelong Durbanite and firmly believes the KZN coastal life cannot be beaten. Her happy place is the ocean and any day that includes a swim in the ocean, a walk along the beach or heading out on the water on her stand-up paddleboard is a good day. She shares a house with a husband and two hounds. Her dream pet is a miniature cow. |
Nikki de Freitas joined La Lucia Veterinary Clinic in February 2012 as practice manager. She is responsible for all of the administrative duties at the practices and is always keen to lend a helping hand in any other area she can assist in. Nikki has always had a love for animals and in December 2013 she opened a puppy school at the clinic, PAWsitive Puppy School. Nikki is a proud mom of 3 sons. Her love for animals is apparent at home where she has 5 dogs, 3 cats and a bird. |

| Nicola Koekemoer has been part of the La Lucia Vet team since 2021. Before working with us, she was in the human medical field assisting a chiropractor. Nicola enjoys being around people and offering her help wherever it is needed. She is married with two children and has two fur babies. In her spare time, Nicola enjoys going for walks, reading, and spoiling her colleagues with home-baked brownies. |
Sue Phillips started working at La Lucia Vet in November 2022. Sue is a qualified fashion designer and has moved between Cape Town and Durban over the years, but she finally settled in Durban with her husband and daughter. Sue loves drawing, painting, sculpture, gardening and making furniture using recycled materials in her free time. Sue loves animals, and although it is partly part of the job, she is really good with interacting with people and making them feel at home.

Victor Mthembu has been working with animals since 1988 and joined our team in 2019. He enjoys assisting wherever he is needed, whether it is in theatre or carrying bags of food for clients. Victor has a full family and enjoys spending time in his house and garden. |

Ntokozo Ndube joined our team in January 2020. He thoroughly enjoys working with animals and you will always see him with a smile on his face assisting the other team members and clients. Ntokozo is blessed with a daughter who is the apple of his eye. In his free time, he loves exercising, cycling and gardening. |
